My Theory Of Absolutely Everything
March 21, 2008 – 11:13 amYesterday I came up with my Theory Of Absolutely Everything, which basically says that our entire universe is made up of just two things: consciousness and physical matter - neither of which can exist without the other, and together they make a synergistic whole which is greater than the sum of its parts.
I’ve been thinking about this for a few weeks since seeing a two-part TV programme about Stephen Hawking - it astounded me that he could attempt to find a Theory Of Everything, which only considered the physical world, with no attempt to address anything metaphysical, such as free will and the mind, which cannot be explained by formulae.
In trying to work out what Hawking was missing that might give him an answer to “How did it all begin?” and “Why are we here?”, I realised that something must have created the initial spark that started the Big Bang, just as something is needed to trigger the growth of a human embryo or the formation of a thought or idea, and I decided the missing component was light of consciousness.
I doubt any physicist is ever going to consider this (it’s not physical!), which is going to leave them permanently fumbling around in the dark distant past, throwing their personal lives away like Hawking has done (according to that programme). Constrastingly, I see the research going on into Positive Psychology to be a much more worthwhile endeavour, which is pointing the way towards a brighter future for everyone.
All this light/dark and positive/negative thinking led me to considering the Yin-Yang symbol and how consciousness can be represented by the outer white part and phsycial matter by the black. More specifically, positive consciousness (e.g. contentment, compassion, love, joy) and positive matter (e.g. the presence of an object) are represented by the outer white and black parts, respectively. The inner circles represent negativity, where the small black circle is negative consciousness (i.e. dark thoughts) and the small white circle is negative matter (i.e. the absence of matter, or an empty space).
A quick look on Wikipedia shows me that my ideas are not new, which I find encouraging: I started at Dualism, and then went to Binary Opposition, Dichotomy, Mind-Body Dichotomy.
Further branches from Dualism take me to Manichaeism, Samkhya and Dharmakirti. All of these are similar to my theory. I’d like to read up on them all, but I think it would be a better use of my time to try and write up my own theory instead. It’ll appear here some time soon … I hope!

UPDATE:
I’ve refined my theory to be that everything in this constantly changing universe of ours is made from Energy (E=MC^2), powered by Energy, and only occurs thanks to the embodied process of Consciousness, which itself requires Energy.
Therefore, Energy and Consciousness form a synergistic partnership that creates every thing and every process in the known universe. (And anything unknown in the universe - or in another universe - will become known when Consciousness finds it.)
This theory forms the foundation of my life philosophy, which I call The EC Way.
